After 25 years of operation, Norway Trade Fairs have decided to cancel the annual Norway International Travel Fair. The background is recent years' development, were both customers and the travel industry are prioritizing other channels when buying and selling travels and vacations.
- We see a trend were the travel industry is changing it's priorities and reduces it's emphasis on the fair as a marketing channel. The customers' buying habits are also changing, and many now prefer to buy their vacations over the Internet, says Siv Lunde Kolrud, Chief Executive Officer at Norway Trade Fair.
Norway Trade Fair has therefore decided to cancel the Norway International Travel Fair 2013 / Reiseliv 2013.
- We host several large fairs every year, and must always consider which concepts and industries are worth focusing on. We will spend the coming year evaluating the travel fair's potential, and explore different opportunities and ideas for a future iteration of the fair. After that we will decide whether the travel fair should sometime come back, says Kolrud.
Norway Trade Fairs is a foundation. Its purpose is to support the Norwegian business community, on business conditions. - By year's end, we will initiate a dialogue withe the Norwegian travel industry to explore how we can best help them in the future, and discuss what role a fair should play in the industry's future marketing efforts.
